At a session of the Social-Economic Council, it was decided that the operational team would be established to consider problems and propose solutions on a daily basis. The establishment of the the team including the representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Economy, State and Local Self-Government, and Labour, with ministers from other sectors invited as needed, is expected to contribute to a more efficient and productive dialogue, as well as to faster resolution of problems in the Serbian economy.
As this decision also marks the official adoption of the initiative of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia (CATUS), which has recently been supported by the board of the Social-Economic Council, the largest trade union confederation in Serbia views the result of the meeting as positive and, in good faith, hopes that the social dialogue will move past a standstill and the joint efforts to address pressing issues in Serbia will begin.
Time will, of course, tell whether such optimism is realistic and whether the outcome will be positive for all employees or whether we will be forced to resort to all forms of trade union struggle.
The Council session was chaired by the Minister of Labour, Veteran and Social Affairs, Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, and was attended by the Prime Minister Đuro Macut, Finance Minister Siniša Mali and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Waterworks Dragan Glamočić.
Apart from permanent Council members, Zoran Mihajlović, Zoran Savić, Goran Takić and Aleksandar Radojević, the attendees were also the CATUS Council Secretary Slađan Bobić and the CATUS Council Vice-President and President of the Autonomous Metal Workers’ Union of Serbia, Zoran Marković.
