Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia and Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of the City of Belgrade marked May 1 – International Labour Day by organizing a performance entitled ‘You Don’t Get Labour Rights, You Fight for Them’ and placing flowers at the monument of Dimitrije Tucović. In front of Belgrade Youth Center a performance was organized showing the way the first Labour Day in our region was marked, on May 1, 1893, next to the ‘Workers’ Restaurant’ of that time. At the time, in the tradition of workers from around the world, a group of workers from Belgrade who weren’t satisfied with their social and political position decided for the first time to mark this day, which would later remain the synonym of workers’ resistance and solidarity. After the performance, trade union representatives walked to Slavija square and placed flowers at the monument of Dimitrije Tucović.
