CATUS Asks for Postponement of Electricity Bill Increase

0
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Report for Serbia, 7% electricity bill increase for households is foreseen starting from October 1.
Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia (CATUS) is worried because this announcement will directly reflect people’s living standard, the increase of prices, but it will annul the extraordinary minimum wage increase, as well.
CATUS appeals to the Government of the Republic of Serbia and PM Đuro Macut to reconsider this decision and return to social dialogue as the best way to solve workers’ problems. On many occasions have we shown that we wanted to be a part of the solution that would contribute to Serbian economic growth. However, this decision will provoke huge dissatisfaction and severely affect household budgets. Especially at the time when the expenses are the highest because a new school year starts and it is necessary to prepare supplies for the winter.
Our counterpart in the negotiations is not the IMF, but exclusively Serbian Government. In the future we expect all important issues related to workers’ standard to be resolved through social dialogue between equal social partners. We also expect you to reexamine this decision and postpone the increase of the electricity bill.
