Extraordinary Minimum Wage Increase

Must Read

Confederation of Autonomous Trade Union of Serbia, represented by the CATUS President Zoran Mihajlović, agreed to the extraordinary minimum wage increase of 9.4% but expressed its dissatisfaction because the increase would take effect on October 1, instead of July 1.
This means that as of October 1 the minimum wage would amount to 500 euros.
On August 18 there will be regular negotiations on the new minimum wage increase for 2026. However, the increase of 10.1%, proposed by the Serbian Government, is unacceptable for the trade union, Mihajlović explained.
„We believe that the increase should be higher and our services are working on a concrete proposal for the minimum wage amount, “ he pointed out and added that the minimum wage increase favoured the employers because the untaxed part of the wage would go from 243 euros to 292 euros.
When new negotiations begin, the CATUS will point out to the fact that the increase would make the compression of salaries in Serbia, and to avoid this the CATUS will ask for the minimum wage increase to follow the growth of the average wage, as well.
„This is the only way to reach the goal of having salaries of 1,400 euros in 2028, as it was promised by the Government, “ concluded Mihajlović.
In the upcoming period our membership will be informed about the course of negotiations.
