Trade Union Asks for Higher Minimum Wage

0
As Serbian President, Aleksandar Vučić, said that the minimum wage would amount to 51,000RSD (436EUR) – 52,000RSD (444EUR), Zoran Mihajlović, CATUS Secretary explained that the trade union was not satisfied with this salary because it was below the minimum consumer basket.
‘With this announced dynamic of minimum wage rise it is impossible to reach the amount of 650EUR till 2027, ‘explains Mihajlović. He adds that the increase from 47,000RSD (402EUR) to 51,000-52,000RSD is simply not enough to cover the value of the minimum consumer basket because its cost is approximately 456EUR.
According to the calculation of the trade union, in order to reach 650EUR till 2027, the value of the consumer basket needs to grow 17.8% annually.
Mihajlović added that the minimum wage would be partly devalued due to the envisaged inflation. Negotiations on the minimum wage are to begin on August 15 and end on September 15. If trade unions, state and employers don’t reach an agreement, the state will determine the amount and for the past several years it had been announced by the President Vučić even before the beginning of negotiations
