Negotiations on 2024 minimum wage will start soon. However, Zoran Mihajlović, Secretary of the Council of Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia (CATUS) says that CATUS will ask for the negotiations on 2023 minimum wage to be completed before the beginning of new ones. ‘It was determined that negotiations on 2024 minimum wage would begin on August 21 and representatives of our confederation will come to this meeting, but they will ask for the completion of this year’s negotiations which were interrupted when we demanded that minimum wage be equaled to the minimum consumer’s basket and introduced in September last year’, said Mihalović for Beta. He added that the value of minimum consumer’s basket in May was lower than 52,000RSD (444EUR), but in the meantime the prices grew and we were waiting for the statistical data on the value of June basket. Mihajlović said that our colleagues in TUC NEZAVISNOST were of the same opinion. Positions of both confederations are no different. CATUS asked for an extraordinary adjustment of the minimum wage because of unexpected inflation rate increase, but the Ministry of Finance was not willing to continue negotiations, only to start new ones for 2024. President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić has recently said that the minimum wage for 2024 would amount to 400EUR, which is depending on the exchange rate around 46,800RSD, and it would be enforced before the end of the year, but he was not precise on the date. Mihajlović explained that trade union would not back down from its position and was not interested in declarations which were probably made due to possible elections.
