Unique software ‘e-sick leave – employer’, which has gradually been implemented in Serbia since the New Year, is designed to enable a faster, more reliable and digitalized exchange of data among selected doctors, employers and the National Health Insurance Fund (The Fund).
As the authorities pointed out, the goal of introducing this system is to reduce red tape, simplify administrative procedures and secure more efficient and transparent sick leave process. This service is intended for employers who are entitled to salary compensation for their employees through the Fund. Its introduction abolishes the need for paper documentation and the entire process of exchanging confirmations and medical certificates is done electronically.
All information is available directly within the system, considerably reducing time and the risk of errors. Employers will have insight into data on open and closed sick leaves, as well as the possibility to submit a request for salary calculation, reimbursement, complaints and requests for second medical opinion.
The system will be introduced through phases. The exchange of confirmations and medical certificates started on *January 1, 2026*, marking the first phase of application. The second phase will start on *March 31, 2026* and covers electronic submission of requests for salary calculation and reimbursement, as well as filling in the complaints.
Entrepreneurs employing workers are obliged to start using the system on January 1, 2027. In order to gain access to the system, employers are required to register their legal entity on the *eUprava *portal.
