The 17th Congress of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia (CATUS) took place on June 26, 2025 in Trade Union Home. In line today’s technological challenges that labour force is faced with, Congress slogan was ‘Navigating Work, Chip and Rights.’ Delegates were unanimous in their decision to jointly fight for every worker and build better future for their children and all Serbian citizens.
After the second round of votes Zoran Mihajlović, previously the Secretary of the CATUS Council, was elected the new president.
The following seven resolutions were adopted: Single consumer basket for all – both for day labourers and politicians; The protection of trade union representative and the right to information and consultation; Youth and trade unions together for more just future; Health to all, safety everywhere; Jobs and life on a healthy planet; Threat to the rights of Serbian and Non-Albanian population on the territory of autonomous province Kosovo and Metohija; Position of pensioners and future pensioners in the Republic of Serbia.
Declaration on the right to trade union association and equal application of the Labour Law to all workers in the Republic of Serbia was also adopted.
According to the CATUS Program that was adopted at the Congress, CATUS will continue its fight against poverty and for a bigger workers’ and citizens’ influence on the public policy, which creates conditions for better future of all generations. Program goals can be fully achieved only if all institutions and mechanisms of the rule of law are functioning. CATUS will continue advocating for the state where the Constitution and domestic legislation are the foundation of the law and all the employers are obliged to abide by them, as well as for the development of just society rooted in solidarity and equality.
